During the audio release of this movie, all that the actors were talking about was the extent to which the crew had to work hard to get every shot right, this is seen evidently in every scene. The elegance and the flawless portrayal of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Ragini is simply awesome. After every scene is over all the only thought that enters your mind is that she has done all this once again in tamil. When that tought strikes your head you have the highest regard that you had for any heroine till now. The way she has emoted in every scene is just so natural. In certain scenes you you hang in the balance whether its the camera work or just her flawless beauty that is shown with such elan. In the song Killi re ( hindi version) and the Kalvare (tamil version) She has shown the elegance with which a dance should be performed. The pain she has gone through to complete scenes such as climbing a mountain ,with bare hands once with Abhishek and again a second time with Vikram, makes you think she just might be one of the best actress that the Indian film industry has seen.
If you felt that aish is the star of the show , you just get blown off by exquisite performance of Vikram (after watching both the movies i cant fight the urge to call him Vikram sir!!) Vikrams roles in the hindi version is of a cop , and in the tamil version is of a rustic criminal . these roles are played by Prithviraj and Abhishek Bachchan in tamil and hindi respectively. I personally feel that they should learn how to enact their roles from Vikram(sir). People who have seen both the movies would have clearly seen that the level of understanding of the roles given to him is much deeper than his counterparts. He has carried off both the roles so beautifully that, it feels like those roles were tailor made for him.Hats off to Vikram for portraying both the roles so well so that we understand how the movies should have actually gone.I can keep writing about him for pages together , rather lets go to rest of the departments..
Music by A.R.Rahman in both the versions is astounding as you all must have felt after listening to it. The background music given by him is just a level higher than rest of his films .You are just awestruck by the mere thought of how he gets such tunes in his head. The cinematography must be given special mention in any of the reviews that have been or, going to be written about this movie. Scenic locales are another aspect of this movie that are worth mentioning.
In spite of all these plus points why has the movie been given a bad rating?
Well the answer are 1and half people!!one is Abhishek Bachchan and the half is Mani Rathnam sir himself .
Only after watching the tamil version in which vikram plays the role done by abhi in hindi, did i understand that this is what the director is conveying.May be because abhi has not done much character type roles that he comes off as he weed in the movie. The other reason as I mentioned is - Mani sir. In his films we dont usually see things being made up just for the sake of making a film. Never in any of his earlier movies has a statement ever come up saying "No way... thats not possible" . But in this movie there 2 ,just 2 ,instances in which you feel "no way this is not a Mani Ratham movie" And from this movie looks like Mani Rathnam has had a thing for ropes !!
During the audio launch aish, vikram, abhi were claiming that all that Mani told them was to ' keep it real' i think he should be saying that to himself.
Im writing this review rite after i watched the tamil version of Raavan. And yesterday night I saw the hindi version, so i guess i could make out the differences between both of them.
